About
Independent Film Blog was founded by Stacey Parks, author of The Insider’s Guide To Independent Film Distribution (published by Focal Press, 2007).
Stacey began her entertainment career at Poly Gram Records in Paris, France in International Marketing. After returning to the U.S, she began work at the William Morris Agency in the Soundtrack division, and later moved to the Independent Film division where she learned the ins-and-outs of film financing, packaging, and pre-sales from the pros.
After departing the William Morris Agency, Miss Parks paired up with British P.R guru Lynne Franks and directed and produced a series of short documentaries for SEED TV in London.
After returning to Los Angeles from London, Miss Parks began work at foreign sales agency Echelon Entertainment as V.P. of International Sales, and later moved on to ACT 1 Entertainment where she was also served as V.P. of International Sales. As a foreign sales agent, she sold hundreds of films to worldwide distributors and helped filmmakers realize their dreams of distribution. She was also responsible for raising international co-production and pre-sale money for several films.
After spending many years deep in the trenches as a foreign sales agent, Miss Parks decided to write the book “The Inside Guide To Independent Film Distribution” (Focal Press), since there was nothing else on the market that told the actual truth to filmmakers about the distribution game. Miss Parks has since launched the online Film Distribution community Film Specific (www.FilmSpecific.com) offering filmmakers from around the world the opportunity to interact directly with distributors.
Miss Parks has written articles for several filmmaking publications including MovieMaker Magazine, Student Filmmaker Magazine, and MovieScope Magazine. She has also been interviewed in the Los Angeles Business Journal.
Miss Parks holds a Masters degree in International Business from Pepperdine University and the Sorbonne in Paris, France. She currently resides in Los Angeles, California where she is a Sales Executive at BBC Worldwide and an adjunct professor in the Entertainment Studies department at UCLA.
